Honorary Medical Chair: Dr. Michael Land

We are pleased to have Dr. Michael Land be returning to our Walk as Honorary Medical Chair. Dr. Michael Land is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Duke University School of Medicine in the Division of Allergy and Immunology.  He is Board Certified in Pediatrics and Allergy & Immunology, and specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of children and adults who have allergic disorders (like food allergies, eczema, allergic rhinitis, urticaria, drug allergies and asthma) as well as primary immune deficiencies.  Dr. Land has a special interest in complementary and alternative medicines and treatment of families with multiple affected individuals.  He is also personally interested in treatment of food allergies, having 3 family members with peanut allergy.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with highest distinction, Dr. Land attended Wake Forest University School of Medicine and then went on to his residency in pediatrics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center.  After completing his 3 year residency, he chose to stay at UCLA Medical Center for his Allergy/Immunology fellowship for 3 more years.  Dr. Land focused his research during fellowship on the immunologic effects of probiotics and has published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and Pediatrics, among other medical journals.  Upon finishing fellowship, Dr. Land joined the faculty at Duke University where he participates in research on asthma and is involved in the teaching mission of the Duke Allergy/Immunology fellowship training program.  In addition to his busy outpatient clinic, Dr. Land also spends time on the wards at Duke University Hospital caring for children with primary immunodeficiencies.  He was recently elected Secretary and will be the future Chair of the New Allergists/Immunologists Assembly in the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology and is on the Complementary and Alternative Practices committee.
